Plantronics Voyager Edge is a smart headset with outdated design

Bluetooth headsets are not just meant to answer calls. Plantronics Voyager Edge is a smart headset with a host of additional features.

The design of the Voyager Edge, however, feels outdated. It has a diamond-shaped body and a long boom as found on its earlier Discovery headsets but is comfortable to wear for longer durations. The company claims that a lot of smart technology has been added to this headset. The boom has three mics that works towards noise cancellation.

During testing, it did perform beautifully. The sound was clear. Plantronics has also added NFC to this headset that makes it simple to pair with phones, with just a tap.

The Voyager Edge is smart as it has sensors that detect when one is wearing it or not. So when one wears the headset during the call, the sensor senses and switches the call from phone to the headset. When removed and still turned on, the keys on the headsets don't work and thus eliminate the chances of redialling the last call by mistake.

It also supports voice controls for answering calls. Plantronics has also introduced a new app for controlling the settings of the headset. Plantronics Discovery was known for having a portable power bank for the headset and it continues with the Voyager Edge too. There is a smart battery back that can charge the headset twice. When the headset is plugged in the cradle, a simple touch shows the charge in the headset as well as this dock. The Voyager Edge gave me close to six hours of talktime on a single charge.
