UbiSlate 7Ci is an entry-level tablet from DataWind, the makers of
Aakash tablets . But despite its low price point, it is worth the money.
This 7-inch budget tablet looks very similar to the
Zen UltraTab A100 . The plastic body gives it a light weight and design has curved edges. There isn't any branding on the front with UbiSlate mentioned at the back.
Considering the sub-Rs 5,000 price tag, the UbiSlate 7Ci has a responsive capacitive display. With 800x480 pixel resolution, the screen feels decently bright. The sound is also decent. Running Android IceCream Sandwich, it has got a 1GHz processor paired with 512MB RAM. While we could easily browse the web, there were instances when the device failed to respond. This meant we had to forcefully restart the tablet.
Unlike other Android devices, the main menu doesn't offer an array of applications. The App launcher only offered basics like browser, calculator, calendar, camera, etc. Apart from PlayStore, Datawind hasn't bothered to add even basic apps here. While we could easily browse the web over Wi-Fi, we could not play YouTube videos on the browser. And Wi-Fi is the only connectivity options as this one does not have a SIM card slot. The battery backup of the tablet wasn't impressive as it would automatically turn off as the battery level fell below 10 per cent.
Bag it or Junk it: Average build quality, but what else to expect at this price point.
