Media streaming devices are becoming popular. Last year, the Bangalore-based Mango Man launched Teewe. Now, it has launched Teewe 2. The company claims it is an enhanced version, priced at Rs 2,399. But is it worth the money?
Teewe 2 continues the same design language with a rectangular dongle. But it is sleeker and light. As per the company's claims, it is 70 per cent the size of the original piece. Teewe 2 plugs into the TV's HDMI port and has a micoUSB port for power. It can either be connected to the TV's USB port or to the wall adapter. Wish the company had worked in a way that it sourced power directly from the HDMI port.
Setting up Teewe 2 requires a few things at your disposal - a WiFi connection, a smartphone or a tablet and the dongle itself. You need to install the Teewe app on your smartphone or tablet and plug in Teewe 2 to the TV. Follow the instructions in the app. The app connects to the dongle automatically and then prompts to connect to it by entering a WiFi password. But it took me over 30 minutes to configure the app. The experience was somewhat similar to Teewe. Once connected, you only need to search the videos and movies you wish to stream. The app helps in streaming content from your smartphone or tablet to the TV. There is a PC app too that can be used to stream content. You can even use this to steam online content from YouTube.
The streaming part, be it online or offline content, isn't very smooth. While the content was playing smoothly on the app, there was a slight lag and buffering on the big screen.
Bag it or junk it: A good effort but needs improvement.
Price: 2,399
Plus: Price
Minus: Lag, Pairing issues
