All you need to know about HMDX Jam Party speaker

If you want to enjoy just for the music, then this might not be the thing for you.

With fewer people buying full-fledged music systems, the portable wireless speaker for the mobile phone has become the predominant audio player in most homes. There have been a spate of these devices over the past few months and more players are entering the market.

The Jam series of wireless speakers from US company HMDX is the latest to be launched in India. These devices are undoubtedly among the best designed I have seen in some time. I reviewed the HMDX Jam Party, which is a very compact stereo speaker that will remind you a bit of an old transistor because of its pull out handle on top. It also has a flip out stand below. The build quality is really good with soft rubber buttons where the buttons are.

The good thing here is that the Bluetooth pairing is in the power button itself and almost instant. There is another LED light to show if the battery is dying as this speaker is rechargeable with up to 12 hours on play on one charge. There are previous, next and play/pause buttons along with volume keys as it works remotely with any device it pairs with.

This would have been a killer product had the audio quality matched the design. The audio is loud, but I felt it was a bit too muffled. So if you are hearing something that is heavy on vocals the experience is really good. As soon as the sound becomes full bodied with an orchestra or even a chorus, the audio quality becomes, well, a bit of a jam. For a speaker called Party the bass should have been much better. Strangely, the sound quality opens up when you flip out the stand on the bottom.

The party will work wonderfully well for hostel party or a rooftop get-together when it music takes a backstage to more heady mixtures. If you want to enjoy just for the music, then this might not be the thing for you. But this for a dose of bass, wireless freedom and style.
