Review: JBL Voyager offers complete sound solution

JBL VOYAGER
Price: Rs 19,990
Rating: 4.5/5

JBL has a history of producing great speakers. My personal favourite from the company's lineup is the JBL Flip. And that experience made me really keen on reviewing the Voyager, which is a wireless home audio system.

Portable speakers are getting popular these days. The Voyager is a portable speaker with a subwoofer docking station. The speaker can be detached from the bass dock and that makes it a perfect companion for terrace or small garden parties. Place it back and connect it to your desktop, it works as a 2.1 channel speaker. It packs in a 2 x 7.5 watts (portable unit) amplifier and a 1 x 15 watts (sub-woofer). The speaker itself incorporates a 4.5cm driver, while the separate sub gets a 7.7cm driver.

Done in pure white, the Voyager has got impressive looks. It is around 1.14 kg and has got a sturdy circular look, which is quite distinct. Controls for power, Bluetooth, volume and call answering are placed at the centre of the speaker, which adds to the independent use. It can be paired with smartphones, tablets or even laptops using Bluetooth. Interestingly, the USB port can be used to charge a smartphone or a tablet too. The sound output is also loud and clear. When heard on lower and mid range volumes, notes are very clear. But at higher levels, there was a slight distortion. But it varied with tracks. It also has a noise cancellation technology that contributes towards better sound output.

Using the detachable speaker was a delight and it acted as a great companion for long drives. It survived for almost five hours on a single charge and even died quickly when the music was on full volume. But to charge it, one has to clip it back to the dock.

BAG IT OR JUNK IT:

A perfect speaker for home that bundles up as a portable speaker.
