The three-day long Adobe Max 2023 event hosted in Los Angeles was the perfect opportunity for the software giant to unveil and showcase its AI capabilities. Several updates were announced for almost all major Adobe platforms including Lightroom, Premiere Pro, and Illustrator, while the company also released its next generation Firefly models. Clearly, Adobe is going all in on AI and seems like India is at the centre of this evolution.
Many of the key AI tools Adobe has recently announced have been developed by company's engineers in India, Ely Greenfield, CTO Digital Media, Adobe told India Today Tech on the sidelines of the event. He said that a number of key Adobe products are developed in India, across their Noida and Bengaluru offices.
"Our Illustrator team is mostly based out of Noida office. Their chief technologists in our product team work hand in hand with our Firefly team and our generative AI team to develop some of our key products like Generative Color and the Generative Vector Model that was announced at the MAX. So yeah, India contributes to a major part of our development initiatives," he said.
The Generative Recolor tool was initially announced in beta in June 2023 and allows users to recolor any vector artwork in Adobe Illustrator using a text prompt to describe a color scheme. It takes only a few seconds for the Illustrator to understand the prompt and generate the result. The magic doesn't end here. It also gives users different color combinations to choose from.
Meanwhile, the Generative Vector Model is one of the newest tools in Adobe's AI armoury and had almost everyone talking about it at the MAX 2023. Adobe has announced a new Firefly Vector Model for this, completely dedicated to Illustrator. It brings the ability to create entire vector graphics from scratch using simple text prompts. The vector model is trained on data from Adobe Stock, just like the other AI models.
It is amazing that Indian engineers are playing a key role in developing some of these tools for Adobe. The company has over 7800 employees in the country across offices in Bengaluru, Delhi NCR and Mumbai -- making India the second-largest site for Adobe after North America. It is also working with the Government of India and CBSE schools to offer Adobe products and services that will integrate digital literacy and creativity skills into the curriculum.
