
Amazon Inc is planning to lay off about 10,000 people in corporate and technology jobs starting as soon as this week, New York Times reported on Monday citing people familiar with the matter.
The job cuts will focus on Amazon’s devices organization, including the voice-assistant Alexa, as well as at its retail division and in human resources, the report added.
This comes days after Facebook's parent company, Meta laid of about 11,000 employees globally, following Elon Musk led Twitter that laid off about 5,500 jobs from their offices from around the world.
The wave of mass layoffs has hit the Silicon Valley in the wake of an economic slowdown in the U.S.
Apple CEO Tim Cook on Monday said in an interview that the iPhone company is being 'very deliberate' with hiring in the midst of job cuts. Microsoft, Google, Lyft have also implement cost cutting measures like cutting jobs and slowing the hiring process.
