SUMMARY
  • DigiYatra was launched by the central government to provide a hassle-free travel experience for passengers at airports.
  • The previous set up required users to download the DigiYatra Application on their mobile phones and register.
  • Now users are no longer required to download the app.

People travelling from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport's Terminal 3 (T3) can now enjoy the convenience of using the DigiYatra facility without needing the app. The Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the private airport operator, made this announcement on Thursday. The facility now allows passengers to complete a simple three-step registration process, using their face as their identification within the airport premises.

DigiYatra was launched by the central government to provide a hassle-free travel experience for passengers at airports. Passengers can skip the long security queues if they have shared their details with the app.

The previous set up required users to download the DigiYatra Application on their mobile phones and register using their Aadhaar-linked mobile number to make use of the digiyatra facility. After registration, users needed to link their credentials through DigiLocker or offline Aadhaar. Once the Aadhaar linking was completed, passengers were required to take a selfie and upload it through the application. The users then had to update their boarding pass on the DigiYatra app, as per ET report.

Taking into account valuable feedback from passengers, DIAL implemented this latest initiative to further simplify the process of using DigiYatra. With this update, passengers are no longer required to download any additional applications on their mobile phones. The revised system has been specially designed to cater to those who are less familiar with technology, ensuring a delightful travel experience for all.

Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, the Chief Executive Officer at DIAL, expressed, "This latest initiative will allow even those who are less familiar with technology to make full use of DigiYatra and travel seamlessly."

The registration process for the new DigiYatra facility takes just one minute. Passengers need to scan their boarding pass and their face, while presenting identification proof to the security personnel stationed near the registration desk. Once the passenger is done with the registration, they can travel smoothly within the terminal, including the security check area and boarding gates.

This innovative initiative provides several advantages, including faster mobility to boarding gates, hassle-free travel, enhanced security measures, and dedicated gates. Importantly, the entire process is contactless, further ensuring the safety and convenience of passengers. This streamlined system saves passengers approximately 15-25 minutes during their journey.Currently, the DigiYatra facility is available at all departure gates of Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 of the IGI Airport, as confirmed by DIAL.
