Google HR loses job while interviewing candidate for a job role, says call got disconnected suddenly

Google layoffs impacted 12,000 employees. Some of the impacted employees revealed that they did not see it coming and were in unexpected ways. An employee revealed that he discovered that he was fired when he could not access his account anymore. A similar thing happened with a Google recruiter, who was in the middle of a call with a potential candidate when the call was disconnected all of a sudden. Google has been so discreet about its layoffs that even the people in the recruiting department had no about the company's shocking move.

Dan Lanigan-Ryan, who worked as a recruiter at Google, told Business Insider that his call was disconnected while he was on a call with a potential candidate. He revealed that he tried to log in to an internal company website during the call Friday but failed to do so. He wasn't the only one in his team to face such issues. Other members of his team also complained about getting logged out of their systems. Their manager dismissed the concern as a technical issue until they were informed about the layoff via an email.

Ryan said soon after he lost access to the company website, his email was also blocked and the call with his candidate was dropped. "And then that was it," he said. "I was blocked out of everything. And then I saw on the news about 15, 20 minutes later that Google was announcing 12,000 layoffs."

Ryan has also written a long post on Linkedin about his layoff. He revealed that Google was his dream company. He was walking his dog a year ago when he got the job offer from Google. However, his happiness was short-lived, as only a year later, he was impacted in the Google layoffs.

"I did not expect it to come to such an abrupt end, blocked out of the system in the middle of a call.My contract was just extended for another year and I was moved to the Cloud Sales recruitment team (an area that is seeing massive growth) and only a week ago there was talk of a pay rise, I've been caught off guard," Ryan posted on Linkedin.

Google laid off 12,000 employees across departments. The company CEO Sundar Pichai took complete responsibility of the layoffs and promised to pay severance package to all the impacted employees.
