Google's much anticipated smartphone, the Google Pixel 6a could launch in May according to journalist and noted tipster Max Jambor. If Google indeed launches the A series smartphone in May it would be in sync with the Google I/O announcement, the same month in which the Pixel 3a series launched.
Last year, the Google Pixel 5a was launched later than expected in August in the US. However, in India Google Pixel 4a was launched in August 2020 and the Google Pixel 5a was launched much later in January 2022. It would be interesting to see how soon Google brings the new device to India.
Reportedly, Google is expected to announce the Pixel Watch on May 26, a seemingly likely date for the next Google I/O conference. Since Google is tipped to unveil the Pixel 6a and the Pixel Watch during the same month.
While we do not know much about the Google Pixel 6a yet, the design and some of the specs and features have started to leak out. Thanks to the unofficial renders by OnLeaks we have a fairly good idea of what the Pixel 6a may look like.
The design shown includes a large camera block running horizontally across the back of the phone, housing a dual-lens camera. There's also a three-tone color scheme, a punch-hole camera on the front, and a 6.2 inch OLED display.
It is expected to be powered by a Google Tensor GS101 chipset, the same as the Pixel 6 paired with up to 8GB of RAM. According to the source, the Google Pixel 6a has a glass back and comes in at 152.2 x 71.8 x 8.7mm.
The Google Pixel 6a would have a 50 megapixel primary rear camera and it will at least get the same 12 megapixel ultra-wide snapper as the Pixel 6, and the same 8 megapixel front-facing camera.
The smartphone will boot Android 12 out of the box. The Pixel 6a is also expected to be Google's first budget device without a headphone jack.
