Google Search introduces What to Watch feature to suggest movies and shows to its users

Google Search has come up with a feature for Indian users through which it lists out movies and TV shows that they can watch. When users type what to watch or good shows to watch, Google Search lists out shows from Disney+ Hotstar, Google Play Movies & TV, Netflix, SonyLIV, Voot, and YouTube.

"Starting today and over the coming week, Google will be rolling out a new experience in Google Search -- when people search for things like "good shows to watch" or "what to watch", they will see an organized set of suggestions from several streaming providers," Google said in a statement.

Users can filter out the OTT channels that they have subscribed to by clicking on the Edit Providers option given on the right. This will help users get personalised recommendations that will help them rent, buy, or watch their picks for free with their subscriptions.

As of now, the Edit Providers option gives you six options including Disney+ Hotstar, Google Play Movies & TV, Netflix, Voot, YouTube, and SonyLIV. Search may add more options in the future.

The shows are available in Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, and English, with additional languages and streaming providers.

Users can also add their preferences to a Watchlist so that they do not lose track of what they are watching. To use the watchlist, the end users have to simply type "what to watch" first and then by tapping on the Watchlist. Users can then add the shows they are currently on so that their list is more organised and convenient.

People using this new Google Search feature, can look for anything specific they would want to watch to get better results. For instance, if users want to watch something like Bollywood movies in 2019, or adventure documentaries about climbing, Search will deliver options.

Users can also categorise if they have watched something by clicking on watch, or adding it to their Watchlist. Users also get the information about the show or movie and which service providers are making it available for free or at a cost.

Moreover, users can get additional details about a particular movie or show on the mobile app. The Search option will tell them about the cast, genre, and brief synopsis of the show.

Google noted that more interesting categories and further updates will be added in the coming months.
