In a bid to support creators, Mark Zuckerberg-led Meta has announced that it is testing new ways to let creators earn money within Horizon worlds. The company said in a blog post that the new feature is being tested with a small group of creators. Meta says that by introducing the monetising feature, Meta wants the creators to earn a living and people can purchase digital goods, services, and experiences.
"The metaverse—by nature of its not being limited by physical space—will bring a new level of creativity and open up new opportunities for the next generation of creators and businesses to pursue their passions and create livelihoods. Creators and entrepreneurs will have more freedom to find a business model that works for them," Meta said in a blog post.
Meta also announced that it would expand on the $10 million Horizon Creators Fund, which was announced in October last year. The company has been using it to provide resources for Horizon Worlds creators. Meta said that it would continue to work with the creators closely, test new features and learn from the feedback.
Meta explains that it would let creators make and sell attachable accessories for a fashion world or offer paid access to a new part of a world. Purchasing and selling items in the Horizon world is only limited to the citizens of the US and Canada, who are 18+. "Creators selling items will see a Commerce tab and gizmo when they're in Create mode that lets them create purchasable items," the social media company said.
Meta has also announced that it is testing a creator bonus program for participants in the US. These programs are goal oriented where the creators will be paid an amount at the end of the month. The company stated that creator bonuses are not subject to fees and will be paid to creators in full. Meta says that it is conducting a limited test, in which the creators will be rewarded for building worlds that attract the most time spent. The company noted that it will encourage creators to adopt new tools or features we roll out.
