In a big tech reveal at TechCrunch Disrupt 2023, OnePlus has officially confirmed its debut into the world of foldable phones. Zeng Xi, the Creative Director for Product at OnePlus, spilled the beans during a special event on "How to Stay Ahead in the Tech Game." While he just revealed that the OnePlus foldable will be announced soon, known tipster Max claimed on Twitter that the phone will arrive on October 19.
So far, the leaks have asserted that the device will be called OnePlus Open, but OnePlus hasn't yet confirmed this and is just calling it a foldable phone. While there is still a lot of time for the new foldable phone to arrive in the market, the leaks have painted a good picture of what to expect in terms of specs. The price details have also been leaked, suggesting that the OnePlus phone will be slightly cheaper than Samsung's foldable phones. If this turns out to be true, then it won't be surprising because OnePlus has followed the same pricing strategy for older phones to offer tough competition to big tech giants and offer consumers a better deal in terms of both specs and price.
Tipster Yogesh Brar asserted on Twitter that the upcoming OnePlus Open foldable phone could be priced under Rs 1,20,000. Comparatively, the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 sells in India at Rs 1,54,999 for its 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. It will be interesting to see how OnePlus will price its first foldable phone and convince users to buy it over Samsung folds.
The tipster claimed that the company's first foldable phone could look similar to the Oppo Find N2, the book-style foldable, which made its debut in 2022. The first foldable from OnePlus is tipped to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The device is rumoured to pack a 7.8-inch 2K AMOLED main screen and a 6.3-inch AMOLED cover display. Both screens are expected to come with a 120Hz refresh rate.
For photography, the OnePlus Open is expected to come equipped with a 50-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 48-megapixel camera with a wide-angle lens, and a 32-megapixel camera with a periscope lens on the rear. The tipster says that the OnePlus Open could feature a periscope lens with 3x optical zoom. For selfies, it could feature two 32-megapixel front-facing cameras, as per leaks.
