German
auto major Audi on Friday reported 11-per cent growth during 2013 to become the first luxury carmaker to cross the 10,000 units sales milestone in the country.
"Audi is closing the year on a record-making note with 10,002 units sold in a single year in India," Audi India head Joe King said in a statement here. The company had sold 9,003 units in 2012.
Mercedes-Benz India had on Thursday reported 31.62-per cent increase in its sales in 2013 in India at 9,003 units and will be ranked at the second spot.
The company said in December 2013 that it had bookings of more than 1,340 units-the highest ever in a month. However, certain sup-ply constraints have resulted in delayed delivery of 450-odd vehicles to January 2014.
As a goodwill gesture, Audi India is providing these cus-tomers with the price protec-tion and will be delivering these cars in January 2014 with December 2013 prices, the company said.
Rival BMW, which occupied the top slot in the luxury car market in India after dethroning Mercedes since 2009, is yet to announce its annual sales for 2013. As Audi gained, Mercedes was rele-gated to the third spot in the first half of 2012.
