The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (
TRAI ) on Thursday said it would come out with recommendations on the proposed new policies for telecom infrastructure aimed at encouraging telecom equipment manufacturing in India by next week.
"We have plans to come up with recommendations on telecom infrastructure and manufacturing next week," Trai chairman J. S. Sarma said.
Sarma added that Trai will float a consultation paper on next generation telecommunication networks within the next two to three months.
Trai floated a consultation paper on the telecom infrastructure policy in January, 2011, and it was closed with the final comments of stakeholders on February 21.
Trai started the process of coming up with recommendations on encouraging telecom equipment manufacturing in the country from May 6, 2010, by floating a pre-consultation paper and subsequently, a consultation paper on December 28, 2010.
