The country's national carrier,
Air India, has been aggressively looking to
cut costs and decrease expenditure across several departments.
Sources told Headlines Today on Wednesday that some top AI executives, who have been drawing hefty salaries and perks, were likely to be taken off the airline.
The layoffs would also include pilots drawing eight-figure salaries, sources said. Many advisory boards, which are a significant cost head for the ailing airline, would also be scrapped.
The airline has also been looking at giving a more professional touch to its management.
On the other side, the Union government was talking to some
potential lenders to evolve consensus on restructuring AI loans. The lead banker would also appoint a nominee on the airline board, sources said.
