Banks witnessed a marginal rise in lending in April-June quarter as lending rates continue to be at
elevated levels.
Data from the
Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday showed banks' credit grew to Rs 4,760,847 crore as of June 29, up from Rs 4,693,566 crore in the beginning of the fiscal (as of April 6).
However, the investment by the banks in government securities and other approved securities rose to Rs 1,862,633 crore, up from Rs 1,811,885 crore.
On the other hand, banks' deposits were at Rs 6,229,173 crore as of June 29, up from Rs 6,095,035 crore as of April 6.
