Microsoft lay-offs continue, cuts additional 1,000 jobs

The company said in July it would cut 7,800 jobs, or nearly 7 per cent of its workforce. The new cuts would be in addition to these announced earlier.

Microsoft Corp CEO Satya Nadella is continuing to cut expenses with an additional layoff of 1,000 employees apart from the 7,800 announced in July earlier this year, amounting to over 7 per cent of its workforce.

A report from Associated Press said that Microsoft quietly laid off about 1,000 workers this week, in addition to about 7,800 jobs that were cut earlier this year. While the earlier cuts fell primarily on the Nokia division, a spokeswoman said the new layoffs "were spread across more than one business area."

Another report from Reuters mentioned a CNBC tweet saying Microsoft cuts 1,000 jobs in new round of layoffs, in addition to earlier cuts.

Microsoft could not be immediately reached for comment.

The company had in July said that it would cut 7,800 jobs, or nearly 7 per cent of its workforce, and write down about $7.6 billion related to its Nokia phone business.

Microsoft earlier on Thursday reported better-than-expected quarterly adjusted revenue for the ninth quarter in a row, boosted by burgeoning demand for its cloud products.
