Ashok Burman was unafraid to take risks - even the risk of minimizing his own role at Dabur, which until his time had been a staunchly family-run business. In 1997, he decided that his family should move out of management role at Dabur in order to help the company grow. I was one of the last journalists to interview Burman.
The 82-year-old patriarch received me at his Delhi house on the tony Rajesh Pilot Marg in June; he passed away in London on Saturday, 9 July 2011. Burman spoke sitting in a wheelchair, but he was still an active consultant to the company's current leadership.
