The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has named Union Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran, who had earlier headed the telecommunication ministry, in its fresh status report on the 2G spectrum allocation scam probe, filed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

The agency accused Maran of forcing the promoter of Chennai-based telecom company Aircel to sell his stake to a Malaysian company in 2006. It said Maran deliberately sat on the Aircel file when it applied for 2G licence.

The CBI has assured that the probe into the money trail into the 2G scam would be completed by August 31. Probe into all irregularities in spectrum allocation during the period of 2001-08 would be completed within three months, the CBI told the court.

The Supreme Court told the CBI not to be influenced and to ensure that its investigations were taken to the logical conclusion. It set July 11 as the next date for hearing.
