The Delhi Metro will run 17 additional trains starting Monday during rush hours.
"From tomorrow (Monday), there will be a total of 17 additional trains making 104 extra trips during off-peak and evening peak hours on all lines except Line-5 (Inderlok to Mundka) and Airport Express," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement on Sunday.
All four coach trains on the "busiest" lines - Line-2 (HUDA City Centre to Jahangirpuri), Line-3 (Dwarka Sector 21 to NOIDA City Centre) and Line-4 (Yamuna Bank to Vaishali) - have also been converted into ones with 6 and 8 coaches, it said.
"The move is aimed at decongesting the evening peak hour passenger rush and also to encourage passengers to avail metro services during off-peak hours," it added.
The DMRC increased the number of coaches from 640 to 1,076 - an increase of almost 70 per cent - across all networks between 2010 and 2014 in the wake of passenger load of about 25 lakh per day, the statement said.
