Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) announced that it plans to replace its best selling car models in India - Maruti 800 and Alto, to bring in a more contemporary and fuel-efficient model. The replacement models to be ready most probably in the next two years will be designed keeping in mind the demand of customers.
Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director of
Maruti Suzuki , said in an interview to a daily that the company is working on replacement of its two most successful car models as they need to be tuned to meet the changing requirements.
In an environment where competition is increasing for carmakers,
Maruti would need to work on models that can entice the younger population. Maruti models till now have attracted customers for its affordable pricing and comfortable driving.
The company has started working on replacement for Alto and Maruti 800, however MSIL would keep on selling the 1000cc version of Alto, the AltoK10.
The Maruti 800 has already been phased out from the top metro cities due to stricter emission norms.
