On the mere rumour of the US Fed cutting down its interest rates creating havoc in the Indian economy, Rajas said. "When will we see Indian policy affecting other countries so intensively?" he asked as reported by Huffington Post.

Rajan, who was seemingly impressed by the boy said that India should not aspire to affect the economies of other countries. "I have been saying that the US should worry about the effects of its policy on the rest of the world. So standing by that, we should not be very happy down the line if Indian policies affect the world adversely," he said.

He added that in the next decade, India would become a significant force for its trade policies to affect other countries' economies.

In a witty reply to the student, Rajan added that by the time the boy grew up to be his age, India will be in the top three economies of the world. "You as RBI governor will have to decide on the policies that not only suit India but are appropriate for the world as well," he said.
