Google annual report lists Samsung as the most searched smartphone brand in 2013

With the year coming to a close, Google released its 13th annual report, Google Zeitgeist, focusing on what grabbed our attention throughout the year. 2013 saw a remarkable upsurge in searches for e-commerce sites in India. E-commerce sites Flipkart, Olx.com and  Snapdeal.com have been named as the most searched shopping sites of the year.  

Rajan Anandan, Vice President and Managing Director, Sales and Operations, Google India, says: "Online shopping, banking, and e-commerce continued their upward trend - a clear testimony to Indians embracing online transactions."

Besides, mobile gaming emerged as a popular category for the first time as a critical mass of people searched for games online with Satta Matka and Ben10 topping the list.

Samsung smartphones topped the list of the most-searched smartphone brands on Google in the year 2013, with Nokia and Micromax taking the second and third spot, respectively.     

On the technology front, the top three searches on mobile were restaurants, bars and movies followed by coffee, cricket score and fast food.

The report also mentioned that this year's result reflected an emphasis on utilitarian searches related to seeking information for personal needs such as shopping and booking tickets.
