Microsoft launches Lumia 640, 640 XL smartphones

Microsoft on Tuesday launched the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL smartphones for the Indian market at Rs 11,999 and Rs 15,799, respectively.

The smartphones, launched at a press conference in New Delhi, were unveiled during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month.

With the Lumia 640, Microsoft has ventured into the online-only sales model as the handset will be available exclusively on Flipkart. The Lumia 640XL will be available in physical stores as well.

Raghuvesh Sarup, director - marketing, Microsoft Mobile Devices, said, "Consumers today are constantly looking for a device to bring them more flexibility to switch easily between work and play. The Lumia 640 XL and Lumia 640 are the perfect devices that are enablers of productivity, busting the 9 to 5 myth by letting you achieve more, on your own terms."

The Lumia 640 features a five-inch HD display whereas the Lumia 640 XL has a 5.7-inch HD display. Both are dual-SIM phones and run on 1.2Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor.

Operating on Windows Phone 8.1, both the phones will be upgradable to Windows 10 when available later this year. These smartphones pack in 8 GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded using a microSD card of up to 128 GB.

The Lumia 640 boasts an 8MP rear camera and a 0.9MP front-facing camera, whereas the Lumia 640XL has a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing one.

The Lumia 640 packs in a 2500 mAh battery while the Lumia 640XL has a 3000 mAh battery onboard. Microsoft has also introduced a host of offers including a 12-month Office 365 personal subscription worth Rs 3,299, redeemable between April and June 2015.
