Four months into 2013 and there have already been quite a few high profile new smartphones launches. After loving the HTC One, we are now testing the
Samsung Galaxy S4, launched on Friday in India.
Appearances-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S4 does not have a revolutionary design. It looks quite similar to its predecessor. Indeed, after checking out the unibody design of the
HTC One, the Samsung's polycarbonate body was a disappointment.
But the display is another matter. We could not take off our eyes of the five-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display. Everything on the screen appeared sharp and crisp. Watching videos on this phablet will be a delight. But the five-inch display size makes it difficult to use without employing both hands.
The Samsung
Galaxy S4 runs on Android v4.2.2 and is overlaid with TouchWiz Nature UX (user interface).
The first thing we did after powering on the phone, and configuring our Gmail account, was check out its most talked about features such as Smart Scroll, Smart Pause, Air Gesture and Air View. Smart Scroll allows users to scroll through the browser and email without touching the phone, while Smart Pause will pause a running video if the user looks away, and so forth. We went to the main settings icon to turn on these features but later realised that shortcuts to each of them have been added to the notification bar as well.
